I've got to bake some special paint on exhaust manifolds. 3 step process. So many minutes at so many degrees. Changing times and temperatures during the 3 steps. While it can be done on the car, it'd make my life so much easier if I could do it in the oven.
Chris, Go for it. Nothing happens escept for the smell. I remember baking the paint on the cast blast paint on my exhaust manifolds for my LWC.
That was major mistake though as shoulda been orange and I keep getting dinged and then I have to hear MH say he would like to see a little more orange on the ex mans. John D

Not long ago my wife got tired of my '57's freshly done 245 HP next to MY side of the bed on an engine stand. It is now in the garage but my six Bluestreaks are still stacked in the upstairs bathroom across from my favorite seat, the wheels are still stacked in my closet and boxes of car books and magazines from the '50's to today and my Corvette News are still in the spare bedroom in plain view--hidden in boxes!

You guys are so funny......love reading about the 'secret' goings on.
Imagine the look on a friends face when coming over to my house....6 carbs are lined up on my kitchen counters awaiting a thorough cleaning. Just seems practical, but I take a lot of ribbing about some of it.
Anything around here gets pressed into service if it serves the purpose....toothbrushes, towels, ovens, whatever.
Between the vehicles and a very active art studio it gets a little messy here, but people love coming over to see what's going on......in this very small town, it doesn't take much for entertainment!
        Best regards, Sandra

Careful Sandra. You may get a proposal from one of the single men above!

Thanks Michael for the heads up! (have no idea where my last post to you went)
Don't know about the proposal part.....I'm not the marrying kind, but some 'proposals' can be really interesting.
            Cheers, Sandra

The Kitchen is a great place to work on car parts, like a M21 4 speed.
Now was that 128 roller bearings?
And why is my garbage disposal jammed?

              Maybe 129?

Being down here in Florida, or as John D. says, "The swamp", I've learned I have to keep all my Corvette specific paints and cleaning supplies in our storage room (bedroom upstairs) where, besides A/C, I have an overhead fan and a dehumidifier going 24/7. Now today I learned from Duke I also have to put my Shell Rotella 15W-40 up there due it's shelf life in our hot/humid climate. Guess I'll put my new case of TEL up there too. Wife hasn't complained yet (doesn't know), but she may not like my throwing out a box or two of old family pictures - ya think?

It sounds like Stu's wife is an angel... and she's still alive. There are a few of those out there.

Re: While the wife is away, part 2

Back in the early 70's when I was restoring Ferraris, crackle-painting the cam covers and timing chain covers required some ingenuity, as the parts had to be heated, then primed with a specific type of zinc chromate while hot, baked, heated again and sprayed with crackle paint while hot, then baked again to "set" the crackle texture.

This, of course, required use of the oven in the kitchen, and a Ferrari V-12 cam cover would JUST fit diagonally. I'd wait until my (now ex-) wife was out of town with her mother, then open the windows when I was done and air-out the house before she got home.

Didn't work - she smelled it the instant she stepped through the door; after remodeling the kitchen, I put that oven out in the garage and ran it from my welder outlet.

I cleaned a wiring harness in a dishwasher and it came out looking absolutely new. Spot free too.

If it is any consolation Ridge, this was Part 1, some time ago:

You just have to plan these things carefully. Always use the Potscrubber cycle, and use plenty of Cascade.

                          Hoping someday to meet Sandra.

                            John H.;

Why is it that a woman's sense of smell is so much keener than us guy's. When I walk through the department store perfume section my wife will try various samples and ask me what I think, and I tell her they all smell the same to me. Then I get one of those "Ah, you're no help!" But you're right, you have to be careful what you do in the house and what you bring in. Like when I've been out in the garage messing with the Vette and get a little oil or gas on my hands it's; "You Stink!" OK smarty, tell me what octane it is, Ha! Heck, I can't even sneek a bite at Micky Dee's without her detecting it as soon as I walk in the door!

Maybe it's because we've spent our lives around so much hi-octane gas, gear lube and other related mechanical associated chemicals that we've lost that "Delicate" sense of smell.

Stuart, Then there are some of us that love the smell of a mechanics shop so much, that I go down to the local mechanics to mess around frequently......my truck always smells like the inside of his shop.
Mechanic's shop and black powder are my favorites.
When my late husband wanted to really show me a good time, we went to the nearest car race track. Usually with a pit pass.
So I guess all women don't fall into the same category....just most of your wives.
                                Cheers, Sandra
