    69 Q's ???

Anyone knowledgeable on what the Q should look like on a 1969 L68 427 block stamping? I've look at two LQ stamped cars recently, and early '69 had the "tail" of the Q squiggly, and a late car had the tail straight.
Did stamping letters change during the long model run? Which one is "right"???
Thanks in advance for your knowledge.

How is the Q used? What sequence? Post photo........In general there were several letter fonts used for different stamp pads. Different "O"s, "P"s etc. Some squared le3tters, some round etc. Need to see yours to tell......

Robert thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. The Q is the Tonowanda engine stamping. On the early car with a 12-10-68 stamping it appears as part of TI210LQ, and on the later car with 11-04-69 stamping of TI104LQ. On both cars the first "one" they use a capital I, and then a numerial 1 for the second "one". Everything looks the same except for the tail of the Q.
I don't know how to attach a pic, or I would.
      Thanks!

        Re: 69 Q's ???

So here is the THIRD variation of the Q that I have found. Did they change that often or have mulitiple stamping kits?
Shouldn't the VIN be perfectly aligned? Weren't they stamped gang style?
So we have the straight line, the squiggly line, and now the backwards "J" style Q!
Is it GM or is it the restampers doing this?
I've seen a Q that I know is original, and it is a late '69 car, and the tail is straight. Closer to the first one, Not at all like this second one. Any Comments??? Anyone out there with an L68 car that can chime in as to what their Q looks like!!!
        Thanks!!!

Great observation, Jamie. We know GM used several different fonts. We may find a fourth.

Michael, What happened with your pad? Have you had your car judged? How did they score the pad? It's obviously been restamped and the top pad surface has been reworked.(No broach marks)

                Obviously?

This is not a restamp and it has never been reworked. This is an original stamping. I have had the car for 25 years and have the tank sticker. The block has been bored but never decked.

If you are refering to the light cross-hatch appearance it is probably from my sanding the deck with a sanding board to remove old head gasket material when rebuilding it 20 years ago.

Sorry Michael, I'm refering to the messed up broach marks with your cross-hatching which ruined the pad surface and also the double stamp that shows up lightly under the second stamping!!
