    61 front suspension

I am working in the front suspension of my 61 C1. I have a stripped outer hole on one side of the lower A frame. I have looked for a thread repair kit but the thread on the lower spindle bolt is 3/4" - 11 threads per inch which is not available. I have also tried to locate a tap of this size. Is there anywhere I can purchase a repair kit or is there a shop that can do the repair?

    Thank you
    George

You can purchase a new outer pivot bolt assembly in reproduction for about 50 bucks. Believe me, a thread repair kit or shop repair is going to cost more than that.

I have purchesed a new bolt assembly but I cannot put it together because the hole in the a frame itself stripped out so the bolt cannot engage it.

      Thanks

My knowledge of C1's is quite limited since I have not really "played around with them" for a LONG time. However, I just do not recall any tappings in the frame or the a-arms associated with the front suspension. Besides that, frames and a-arms are relatively thin sheet steel; I don't see how that would support a 3/4" tapping.

          Joe,

The are has a small square plate about 5/16 thick welded to it and probably the original thread was in that. There are only a couple of threads in the good side. Once it is completely assembled with the nut installed on the other end of the bolt I do not think there would be much side load on the threads so it probably doesn't need many.

          Thanks
          George

I think we'll need some "C1 guys" to deal with this one. There's several, at least, who hang out around here.

I just ran into this situation on my buddys 61. The best approach in my opinion is to get another lower a arm which is what I did.
              Good luck

agree with bruce. 49 to 54 chevy pass car a-arms are identical to the c-1 a-arms. i got some nice , rust free calif pass car a-arms from joe calcagno, who adds in the driveline. mike
