When I posted a while back as to where I could locate a timing cover for my extra 55 engine , two NCRS members sent me one , that's what I call being a member on this forum, it has it's rewards. And shows the kind of people that post here. I myself have send out parts also to help members on their Corvette that I dint need .
NCRS may never start up a for sale section but how about a (give away section) I have many little parts that isn't worth my time to take to a swap meet but I don't wont to throw them away , I took many parts to the Northern Ca.NCRS chapter meet and did the same thing, to see some one that could use them . Just an idea? And again thank you both that send me the cover. God bless you both.

Great idea. I too have a number of things I know I will never use, specially wrong parts ordered for a future project only to find out too late they won't work, or some not as nice as others that I chose to use, etc. I know I always keep my eye open for someone mentioning a need for a part and I rush out to the garage to check what I have if it rings a bell. So far I have not been able to help anyone, but believe me, I have good intentions.

Now there's a man that's thinking on his feet....I love the idea.

I am one who doesn't really have parts, but I am one who is need of parts for my '64 coupe.

But I know if I do have any extra parts I would be considering what you are proposing in a big way. It potentially makes this hobby an even better one with the 'give back' idea you have.

Truth be told, I have so many little duplicates and extras that have accumulated that I would probably never take the time to inventory them for sale, but really would love to find a good home for them when needed. Great chance to "pay it forward"!

Maybe we should have real true swap meets where everyone brings their old or unused parts, tosses them out on a tarp, and all exchanges or give aways are done right out in the open among the members. Save a lot on shipping charges, and gain a lot of face to face good will. The spirit of the forum would have to be that you only pick out things you can really use and not for resale or profit.

Probably never work among all you capitalists, Ha!

Hi Stu,

I think you have a good idea for a local Corvette club, but with one of this scale, it would sort of defeat the purpose of the concept (at least as I understand it). The idea is to have a free exchange while avoiding the hassle of hauling stuff half way across the country just to give it away. I live in the Midwest and can only get to a couple of local NCRS events a year. I'd love to give and get under this concept, but with young kids and a full time (and then some) job there is no way I can make it to a "swap meet" more than a couple of hours away. In that sense, an internet exchange is the only thing that I could participate in.

Guess you're right. Might be a good idea for the IL chapter. Having moved here to Florida from the Chicago suburbs, I sometimes forget about the short season for shows, cruise ins and swap meets up there. Still and all, you do see large turnouts at places like Carlisle, BG @ Pheasant run, and Mid-America's event, as well as ChevyVetteFest in Rosemont, IL (that being indoors - I'll be there).

Great idea... there is something called FreeCycle where folks offer things for free, that might be a good example on which to base this effort. It is on the web and think is is countrywide. There are some good faith rules, one being the items are intended for use by the folks getting the items and not intended for resale.

They do this regularly on the CF, usually once around Christmas time. As mentioned above, it is called paying it forward. Don't see why we couldn't just start a pay it forward thread and see where it goes. If a moderator sees this please chime in and let us know beforehand that it would be ok.

Hey they have "Toys for Tots" why not?

Like most long time corvette lovers, I have lots of accumulated odds and ends...like an nos spring for a '55 hood latch in the turquiose and black box, not gonn'a change my life. But I would send it to someone who needed it to get a car judged (free) Yes. It runs outside the realm of technical issues so it may not be for this type of thread.

Some one should do a article on it , like the thickness and compressed pounds it take , the repro are all mostly to thick and hard to compress (that's one reason the hood pop open on 53 to 57).

That's a great idea. I'm happy to see my extra parts got to someone that needs them. I've also been blessed with parts from friends and members who have helped me with parts I could find nowhere else.

GREAT IDEA ROY!!

In the short time I've been involved I have several "whatchamacallits" that some member is beating his brains to try to find one. As Kirk mentioned the CF has done it for a couple years anyway. I believe they run it in all generations. Here is the link for last years C2 section:

I don't believe there has to be much supervision over it. It seems pretty straight forward.
