    Wanted 1970 Michigan License Plate

I'm looking for a 1970 set of Michigan License Plates. I found one dealer near Port Huron, but couldn't find any plates I liked number & letter wise.

Does anyone know of any dealers that might be of help. I tried ebay and there was nothing from Michigan right now.

    Thanks

    Bob

      Robert,
Ebay has a whole section on license plates. Just put in the particulars of what state and year you want and sit back and wait for the set that you want.
      Couldn't be easier.

If you are around Milford on Sundays , go to Bakers on Milford rd. 2 miles north of 96, their is a guy selling new and used plates, mostly all new, plates sold in pairs, all years

Try the "Corvettes America" show at the GM Tech Center in Warren on Saturday, August 9th - lots of vendors there; Corvette-only show, usually draws 600-700 Corvettes.

            Bob,
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but LICSENSEPLATES.TV can make state plates, in aluminium, with the proper appearance for a particular year, in the proper colors with what ever numbers and letters you wish. Or are you looking for actual old plates?

Isn't Bakers a great place to see some great cars? Your right there is a dealer out there and I have been keeping in touch with him to try to get something with 454 or 70 in it but he hasn't come up with anything for me yet. Thanks

Yes, I'm looking for the actual plates to be able to get a better rate on my insurance. If I can find a 1970 Michigan plate that I like I can have the Sec of State charge me a one time $35 charge to license my car for entire time I own it. There are some restrictions ( driving to shows, meets, club events etc) on this but they are not a problem for me. Also, I can save at least $80 @ year on insurance.

Thanks Alan and I'm going to check out your idea.

Alan....I have several sets from Licenseplate.TV and while they do make a very nice plate, they may not be legal to use on a car for registration. I know I have tried several times in Maryland and they always "catch" me at the MVA!! The plates they make are yellow on the back and pretty much a dead give away to our "friendly" MVA. Note these are extremely highly trained Crispy Cream calander girl /license plate anylists that work here!!!!!!!!

Bob, if you're looking to get a plate for the insurance discount, I believe you have another option in Michigan. When I got my car, I put a MICHIGAN HISTORICAL VEHICLE plate on it, and Hagerty gave me the insurance discount, plus I got a very low cost for registration. (I believe it was $15 for 10 years' worth) A year or two later, I came across a MICHIGAN VINTAGE plate that had the year of the car on it. I liked the idea and bought one (at Bakers') from Larry Leslie. I spent < $50 for the plate and approx $35 for the fee to assign it to the car. Now, I have a vintage tag, no renewal fee and a low insurance cost.

All that said, you may have another option for reduced registration fees and insurance costs while you look for just the right VINTAGE plate. Hope this helps.

I would suggest you be patient and keep looking on Ebay as long as you have a plate on the car now. Also check out www.mlpca.com , they have 2 meets a year in Flint, Mi and have a great number of dealers that attend. The best meet is in the spring. I keep going in an attempt to find my initials for a 67 plate "RS".
