Anybody want to take a guess

At the number above the frame number 303196 -G.C. in this upside down picture:

Also were the brackets that hold the rocker panel on, painted with the body?

This is a late June 67 convertible, with an AO Smith Body.

    Jerry -

I'd expect that number to be 3900200-34 GC.

Yes, the long brackets for the rocker molding were in place when the body was painted - they were spot-welded to the sills as the first subassembly operation prior to loading all the birdcage parts into the main welding fixture.

      John,

After consulting the JG, I would guess the number is 3900200 but I'm not so sure about that 34 and the GC. On mine, the G. C. is on the line at the end of the 303196, per this picture:

After the 3900200 there appears to be a 2 digit number, but it doesn't look like 34. Then following that number on the same line is what looks like a date in the format of #-##-##. They appear to me as (?)-20-67.
Just can't read that first number (?), but think it is a 6, making 6-20-67.

My car is a 6/29/67 car by the VIN (22049), but wonder whether that would be too close. (Although almost everything else on my car seems to be within 2 weeks)

Is there a better method of bringing out the numbers from light rust? I have been trying gently rubbing the areas with Simple Green and a shop towel.

Also, I remember you posting your frame numbers way back. Your car is pretty close to mine, and it would be helpful to repost yours.

      Thanks John

        Jerry -

My numbers were long-gone, and I replicated them based on the format shown in the JG. However, I noted that three of the 67's I judged at the National Convention, two of which appeared to have the original numbers, were formatted like yours, not like the JG example. Perhaps there were legitimate variations in the stencil format at A.O. Smith-Granite City.
