    original '66 p/s valve cap

I see in the archives that caps with an X are considered original, as opposed to a C. Is that still the current consensus with regard to judging?

Yes, for the midyear Corvettes and up ( to what year I am not sure)the X on the cap is considered original and C is considered a replacement.

The "C" cap was used on the Chevy II application, which had a different internal centering spring (30# vs. 55# for the Corvette application).

Later Shark era JG books (e.g. 1973-74) state the 'C' code is correct for Corvettes built then...

'65 #23561's (just about a 1966!) has neither a "C" or an "X"; pretty confident about the orinality inasmuch as the pump has a 3868892 pulley that the parts book calls out for 65/6 327/350HP with A/C, which is what the car is.

1967 was the last year for the linkage-boosted power steering system on the Chevy II; the 1968-redesigned Chevy II (Nova) used the integral power steering gear. Corvette was the only user of the linkage-boosted system from 1968-1982, so the stamp on the control valve dust cap may have changed after '67.
