It has been over a couple of years since I was active here (and I see a few changes have been made in my absence) so I thought I'd say "Hi" to some old acquaintenances and offer updates on the progress (and lack thereof) of my latest '68 coupe.
5 years ago I bought this numbers matching basket case for little more than a song, took it a reputable local shop for body removal, and took the remains back home for 2 years worth of intense restoration. The last two plus years my completed chassis has been back at that "reputable" body shop awaiting the completion of body/paint work and the reunion of body and frame. If you're thinking 5 years is way too long, I agree but personal things like health problems etc contributed to the delay. Last Monday the call came telling me all was as done as it was going to get, and scheduled the delivery back to me.
So, the car is back home with issues far beyond my imagination, and trust me when I say my expectations weren't all that high - just thinking I'd have an acceptable level of decent quality; free of orange peel/water spots and final buffing needs, not to mention body and hardware mount deficiencies. Oh yeah, the shop removed the vin and trim tags, and to date cannot find the trim tag (I have the broken vin tag and a lot of questions for local governing agencies).
Bottom line is I'm happy to see this board still thriving. I will be using the search function a lot over the next few months as I continue to resurrect the old coupe.
