In the House of Representatives, U. S.,

June 26, 2008.
Whereas the Chevrolet Corvette is America's first sports car;

Whereas the first production Corvette rolled off a Flint, Michigan, assembly line on June 30, 1953;

Whereas the Corvette is now manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky;

Whereas the Corvette is the most widely respected production sports car in United States history;

Whereas the Corvette is truly a symbol of American pride;

Whereas General Motors is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008; and

Whereas the 30th of June would be an appropriate day to designate as `National Corvette Day': Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the United States House of Representatives supports the designation of a `National Corvette Day' to honor the Chevrolet Corvette."

There was a story in the local newspaper just today about the "do-nothing" congress, and this resolution was cited as an example of wasted time and effort on the part of politicians when there are more pressing matters for them to deal with.

I guess it depends on your point of view.

That's a good point. As much as I love Corvettes, I would rather they work out a deal to drill for more domestic oil. After all, it's hard to enjoy Corvettes when the cost of a gallon of gas is prohibitive.

This last session on Congress will go down in history for having conducted the least amount of business during a session. Every one has their special interests, but do not give a $%@ about what is best for our country. You cannot point a finger at either party for the do nothing, they are equally as bad.

I had no intention of dragging this into a political debate. I merely wanted to point out what a minority we are.

Oil companies have hundreds of thousands of acres under lease that they are not drilling on now, and they want more. Ask who the villain is before one jerks the knee.

A comprehensive energy policy has eluded this country for decades -- regardless of which party controlled the White House or the Congress. Until there is no gas at the pump it will continue to elude us, and then everyone will want instant solutions. The public is simply not ready to move beyond sound bites that advance some agenda.

On second thought those guys in Washington could be dangerous if they really did something. Perhaps we are better off to let them rename post offices and declare National Corvette Day.

My son asked me the other day, does congress care about those most effected by $4/gal gas, oil companies outlandish profits and forclosures ?
I told him, there is not one member of congress or policial member in government who cares. It does not effect them.
THEY DO NOT CARE. Is there real answer that can justify what we the people are suffering through????????? THEY DO NOT CARE, IT DOES NOT EFFECT THEM OR THEIR FAMILIES
Sorry for my rant, but is there anyone in congress who cares??????

Thank you John for the update on our National Corvette Day!

Now boy's do you really think that drilling for more domestic oil will help bring the price down at the pump, guess what it won't! It will go into the global supply and end up being controlled just as all the rest of the oil produced around the world. Not that I'm against the US standing up on our own two feet, but Take Sunoco for example they only sell US produced oils, are they cheaper at the pump, No! The prices we pay are controlled by the gov. along with the taxes no matter were the oil is pumped out of the ground. Hopefully I'm wrong please someone explain?

It is more than the price of fuel. It is the exporting of the wealth of the United States to other countries. Our standard of living is in the decline, subject to globalization. Is our environment better because we do not drill in the gulf of Mexico while the Mexicans do?

OK--back to June 30th!! What will we do to celebrate? Drive them all day with streamers flowing off the antennas? We need to do something to make that day remembered so it isn't just another day driving the vette! any suggestions?

We need to get it out to the local NCRS and also to the local Corvette clubs in our respective areas. They have pull with advertising and sales groups in their domain. I am all in for top down and grey hair blowing in the wind

The G-d damned rich just keep on getting richer. They always "cash-in" on any so-called adversity.
Why do the oil companies keep on posting record profits as oil prices rise?
Happens with every price run-up.
I agree, that more domestic drilling will do nothing to alleviate the pain.
I agree that these fat bastard oil tycoons don't need any more acreage to drill on? They have more than they need already.
Remember Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood", when he said "my straw can reach Allllll the way from here, to there............and I can drink ALL of your milkshake!"
How about a gas tax holiday! Now, ain't that a crock of s-it of a gimmick! Ranks right up there with the "economic stimulus" tax rebate. The former "Maverick" John McCain, now in bed with the oil companies, and wearing full Republican regalia, will certainly get my vote with that kind of PHONEY bulls-ht solution.
Pass antitrust laws to limit windfall profits.
Pass anticorruption laws, and try to reign in the speculators who are getting fatter and fatter at our expense.
I must be a visionary, but I have been blaming speculators for this current feeding frenzy ever since the price of oil was at $60.00/bbl. Yes, I must be clairvoyant, because I said that about 14 months ago.................you have finally been starting to hear talk of this in the current campaign rhetoric and posturing over the past 3-4 months. I also reasoned that once crude hit $100.00 bbl, then it would be "off to the races". That's about what happened until the run-up temporarily stabilized recently.
Whoops...............time for me to study tomorrows futures' prices on the Chicago Merc. I need to make a quick hundred thou-or-so to pay for a new ZR1.

Great idea! Make sure you're driving a nice, "green" Corvette with 4.56 axle @ about 80 cents/mile.
