Auto Transporter Recommendation?

Hi all,

Could anyone recommend a good coast-to-coast auto transporter that you've had good luck with and is reasonably priced?

I used Exotic Car Transport out of Orlando, Fl., to deliver my car from Jacksonville to South Louisiana, and was very happy. I can't remember exactly what I paid but it was reasonable.

I've used Reliable to ship my new 63 SWC from Illinois to California - very happy with their service - great equipment, and a good driver.

I used Exotic Car Transport out of Orlando (800)766-8797. I purchased my 62 in Seminole, AL. and they transported to Harlingen, TX. Very reasonable and the driver called all along the route to let you know where he was and time of arrival. GPS works wonders for those guys.

I have shipped my cars by Passport Transport, before Fed Ex purchased from Robert Pass, for a total of 15 times (cars X trips) without instance. I don't know about Fed Ex but assume them to be good. I would ask someone who has used them. I have heard good words about Reliable from a friend and I believe Chrysler still uses them to deliver Vipers.

Be certain to check the carriers' insurance coverage, if your car is loaded under another that it is covered to protect from dripping fluids, if chains are used to tie down that they do not damage finish, pinch brake lines, etc., that you know the route and if there will be a lay over, where your car will finally ride (will it have to be on and off loaded to get later pickups and deliverys, etc.), that mats are used in your car, there is protection from dirty hands, etc., and that you get a copy of the walk around inspection sheet identifying any damage previous to loading your car. Just alot of common sense stuff to assure it arrives the way it was picked up.

You may also want to contact Thomas C. Sunday Inc. based in PA. Restorer Kevin Mackay here on Long Island uses him exclusively for his cars as well as those of his clients.

I used this company from California to Texas on his way back to the East Coast. It is a three car trailer so he delivers when promised.

I would use him again. The main issue with any carrier is if their schedule can satisfy your needs.

I have also used Hotshot Haulers 3 times and very satisfied.
I shipped from Ohio to Texas and 2 to California with no problems.
Tommy is a good guy, is fair and flexible.
I'd use him again.

Isn't there a web site (perhaps E-Bay) where you can advertise your needs and get bids from prospective carriers. That leaves the schedule accommodation up to them to bid on. A number of the smaller haulers work that way and are looking for "return trip" jobs.

Most everyone's experiences described in this thread point out that the people that work this business are all pretty good and responsible, so I believe it comes down to price and availability. My son has shipped several cars via small carriers using the bid process and all went well. I used Reliable from Chicago to Orlando - very pleased.

I also like Thomas Sunday. I just used them to bring my 57 out to the National Convention in St Charles in July.Very Pleased
