    Carlisle Question

I'm trying to make some last minute travel plans to include attending Carlisle.

    1. Is there anything worthwhile doing on Sunday? Last year, Sunday was dead. Of course, there was a severe storm on Saturday night that could have been the reason for low attendance on Sunday.

    2. Carlisle advertises that it starts on Friday. But then there's mention of Thursday. What's going on on Thursday?

Thursday is primarily set-up day for the vendors.

      Re: Carlisle Question

Not a lot of activity on Sunday, other than vendors packing up - many of them bail Saturday night.

Anybody know if the camp grounds just outside the back gate (side where the for sale cars are) are still open this year?

Thursday and Friday are the best days for buying and selling.

Saturday tends to be the "Matching T-Shirt" crowd. Lots of people, but very little selling or buying occurs.

          Sunday-don't bother.

The 2008 Carlisle map shows that Gate 6 is closed this year, and a poster over on CF the other day mentioned that the RV camping area adjacent to it is also closed. Don't know what the alternatives might be - you might call the Carlisle Productions office and ask.

A lot of people now attend on Thursday. Only the main gate is open, and the ticket booth there is in operation.

I have always felt that Sunday afternoon was a good time to make a deal on the Cars for Sale field. I have listened in on some negotiations between buyers and motivated sellers who don't want to take the car home again.

                    Re: Carlisle Question

I've been going to Carlisle for 17 years, and the best selection is definitely on Thursday and Friday. The dealers set up early and do their buying before the crowds arrive. Some cars are sold and resold several times during the show. If you are serious about finding hard-to-get parts get there early.

Couldn't have said it better, Ed.

We set up Thursday AM. We pack up and haul out at about 2 PM on Saturday.

                          Re: Carlisle Question

There is construction in the area below the armory (Cavalry Road Gate 5 and 6 area) which has closed off where a lot of folks used to park their RVs.

As for which days to go, we always are there all day Friday and Saturday, but the only time I stuck around on Sunday was when I was lucky enough to be a Celebrity Fun Field Pick back in 2004. The benefits of staying on Sunday, as mentioned are if you are in a buying mood, or if you really think you have a chance to win the give away car!

Chris, If you are really looking for parts Thursday is your day. Plan on lots of competition though as the vultures storm in from all over the world.
Thru and Fri are the best days for shopping. Saturday is a mad house with wall to wall spectators just walking around looking at the cars& site seeing. I have been attending Corvettes At Carlisle since day one both as spectator and a vendor. The earlier you get there the better. Especially if you are looking for original and NOS parts. One of the best Corvette events on earth. Good luck, John D.
