67 License Frames and Accelerator Return Spring Bracket

On a 67 327/300 hp (for spring bracket) are these two components both suppose to be made of stainless. If so, they should NOT be magnetic - correct? Or do I have that wrong? Thanks.

I don't know about the spring bracket, but even though it's stainless, the license frame is magnetic. I don't know where this got started, but I had a heck of a time convincing a judge. Some stainless IS magnetic!

Some stainless is magnetic, some is not.

300 series stainless steel (example 304) is high quality and not magnetic.
400 series stainless steel (example 410) is magnetic.

So my question is this. The judges were walking around my car with their magnet checking everything. ACCORDING TO THE JG, should my license plate brackets and accelerator spring bracket be magnetic or not???? Thanks.

          Kirk -

Your accelerator return spring bracket SHOULD be magnetic - the original one was ordinary steel, some of the reproductions are stainless. Don't know offhand what grade of stainless was used for the original license plate frame and whether or not they're magnetic - maybe an Exterior judge can comment.

My original 63 SS License plate frames are magnetic. My throttle return spring bracket is a repro SS and it is not magnetic, but my original steel bracket (cruddy thing) is magnetic. I thought maybe I was getting feed through magnetic contact from the license plate itself or the tension springs, but it is far too strong for that. I believe even a thin sheet of non-magnetic SS is probably a good magnetic insulator.

Is non-magnetic SS a good electrical conductor?

Did they check your headlight buckets to see if they were magnetic?
