    Flexplate balancing

What is entailed in matching a flexplate from a different motor/ trans combo to my car? The knucklehead who rebuilt my motor lost the flexplate that came with the engine / trans that were together. At about 3500 rpm. I have a drive line shudder I suspect is due to the replacement flexplate I had to install.

Do you have the vibration sitting still with the engine revved up??

I just changed the balancer and pulley as well "knucklehead" also had bent my crank pulley... The vibration seems less now, most noticeable when the car is decelerating, a small shudder around 2000 -1500 RPM.

Drive shaft was made for the car (that is the other thing that dopey lost on me. Crap, I forgot about that... Another thing to add to the list why I'm ticked at him...) they balanced it when they built it.

Roy, he WAS a family friend who owns a shop. His task was to have the engine and trans rebuilt so I could get it running. After two years of no results and finding he stored my '55 in his open parking lot adjacent to I-80 when I saw it posted on the internet, I went and brought it home and did it myself. Lesson learned: performance goes before friendship. A week before my oil pressure mess, this clown was at my house taking credit for rebuilding my motor...

Hey, all is well, it runs and I'm happy. When I took the motor apart, I had a chance to check it out and correct any issues. So far, so good.

The components of the reciprocating assembly for your engine are balanced separately. If you suspect that the flex plate is out-of-balance, all you need to do is remove it and have it checked/re-balanced by a competent engine balance shop. Even if I was installing a new flexplate, I would have it checked for proper balance.
