    C2 Glove Box Liner Removal

I need to remove my glove box liner in my 66 roadster in order to access the Bowden cable connections on the heater box. I recall that when I first removed the glove box liner the glove box light power wire was very difficult to remove from the plastic light receptacle. The power wire end has a metal blade that acts as an electrical contact for the light. This blade snaps into the electrical light and is in tight. The wire and receptacle must be removed to remove the glove box liner. I damaged the original power wire and the plastic receptacle when I was restoring the car. The power wire is part of the dash harness. I have since replaced both the receptacle and have installed a new harness. I do not want to damage especially the power wire that is a part of the new harness.

Any ideas on how to safely remove the power wire blade from the receptacle?

    Regards,
    Dave K.

Why not just remove the whole glove box with the liner, it is easier. I thought there is a little wire connector back in there for the light.

      Disconnect the battery first.

        Jerry,

I do not think that there is enough wire to stretch to get the liner/box assembly out together without either cutting the wire or removing it from the plastic bulb receptacle. As I said, remvoving it is difficult.

          Hi Dave
You're right, not enough slack to work with, you really need to separate the wire from the switch.
I was able to slip a pointed blade X-acto knife between the two relieving that pall enough to separate them.
I sure hoe someone comes up with an easier method.

            Dave,

            Now I remember, I cheated

First time I took the glove box out (to install my Vintage Air system), I cut the wire and put bullet connectors on the cut ends. Then when I later took it out again to change the liner, it was a snap in and out.

I wonder how they installed the glove box and light socket in the factory. There is nothing in the AIM on it. Maybe the socket was on the harness and they poked it through the liner.

I see you're having lots of fun

              Dave,

I found a picture of the liner change on my 67, here's what I did:

Actually, I was forced into putting the connector in as the wire was "accidentally" cut. My 6 year old grandson was "helping" me one day and playing around with wire cutters. Thus the connector, but it sure is useful in pulling the glove box easily.

If you can disassemble the bulb and switch, won't the little terminal piece fit through the hole in the top of the liner without undoing the wire from it?

Just make sure he now knows Computers and Wire Cutters don't mix well either. Isn't it scary how much these youngsters know already at their young age. I have a 10 year old Grandson too - what a whiz! He knows more about ALL Corvettes than I do, C-1's thru C-6's!

                      Gerry,

I was thinking of doing the same once I get the wire and receptacle separated. I'm going to follow Mike M's suggestion. Ido not think that there is enough room to pop it through the top of the liner but I'll check

                      Thanks,
