    Date coded rear end sources

Completing a restoration of a 67 427/400 Roadster which currently has a replacement rear end from a 68. The build sheet indicates the car had a 3.08 rear w/427 (AT code). Any recommended sources for a replacement date coded rear end?

A friend just removed his original rear end from a 66 PG and is taking it to Carlisle to swap it for a rebuilt unit from Bairs. This would be to early for your 67, might check with Bairs and see what they have.

Brian Bair is an excellent source as is Darryl at 4-Speeds by Darryl.

I built a diff out of a 66 BB last Winter, shipped it DHL and they lost it at their hub.

I then had to track down a housing to build to replace it. I made a lot of calls. Try Brian Bair and Pat Ikerd, both are probably on the way to Carlisle. If they don't have one, good luck. A dated housing will run up to $400 for the housing and caps. Be sure to fit test the caps. The housing I used had caps but they were way off, I had to grind and bore them to get the 001 gap I wanted with them.

I looked for a long time for a correct dated case and finally had Darrill from Pipers set mine up. Cost me approx 1300 (case-posi unit, etc.) He supplied a nice case using original 3.36 gears and he did a nice job. I enjoyed talking to him on the phone, he is an old hot rodder, gear head like most of us.
