Re: Build Sheet for 70 454 Convertible found - anybody's Vette?
Hi Oliver,
Sorry, but It's not my car.
My eyes are not good enough to see the 'exp. date of prod'. Is it 00/00/00 ? Is that indicitive of a car ordered for dealer stock and not for a customer? Thanks for looking. As usual I'm curious. Thanks !

Now I thought NCRS standards required that after a build sheet is found in a car and notorious that the car it was found it MUST be changed to the description on the build sheet.

It could be a build for early 71. The date is the date the Corvette was ordered not when it was built. The 315 # could be the last #'S the cars serial #. Most stickers had the job # & the last 3 serial #'S. If his Corvette is a real early 71 it could be from the car built in front of his.

Hi Oliver, again,
I asked about the 00/00/00 because my car was a 'Dealer Stock' car and it has those numbers for the 'Exp. Date of Prod'. I'm not sure what it means or indicates and hoped someone might pipe up!

You are right again. I should have thought of the HP change to 365. Do you have any idea how it got there assuming it left the factory with it? Could it have been lying around from the 70 model & got stuck in the 71?

So long as we are making assumptions -- my first would be that the steering column was changed sometime in the car's lifetime -- but there should be clues to that. Is the ignition keyway right? Were the bolt heads marked by a wrench?
If all that is negative I have no idea how a 1970 steering column got into a 1971 Corvette in the factory. Of course one can always play the early/late/strike game -- but that usually is BS.Terry- Top

TERRY
How many build sheets were out on the line? I know 1 was in the basement on the chassey line & one on the tank. I know there were more copies but how many were out on the lines. Do you know why they used these & not just the broadcast sheets that are hardley ever found on Corvettes but are found on other Chevy cars?

Concerning assumptions:
I very much go in-line with Terry - like him, I also think that the column has been replaced...
As I have not seen his car (he's just a pal from the forum), I cannot give any information on "markings of the bolts" or something. But his car's VIN does not back a 454 engine... Even IF there was some kind of layover from a previous year, definitely they would have put the VIN with a BB-engine-suffix, then!
