Front Seat Track Bolt Size - 66 Conv

    Gang,

Getting ready to put the interior back together after a successful carpet install. Thanks to all who have helped.

One deal I have is the four bolts that hold the seat tracks to the floor (2 per side) are obviously incorrect. I looked at a couple of the major catalog houses and even my assembly guide, but can't seem to find out the correct style and size to use.

Anybody out there know what type head, length, size, finish etc I need to get?

    Anthony,
The bolts were 1/2" recessed hex head, black phos bolt with a captive flat washer and "E" headmark. Similar to those retaining the hood latches.

Sorry, I should have asked to confirm that you have the appropriate cuts and flaps.

I'm going on memory, since I can't get to my car right now, but I've taken out these bolts several times and don't recall that they were 1/2" diameter. The head of the bolt may require a 1/2" socket or wrench and maybe that was what was being referenced. I thought they were 5/16" diameter. I'll check when I get home and respond back if there is no other confirmation.

Yup! Thanks to a couple of other folks on the forum I was able to get some great shots of how to make the proper cuts and flaps, so I think I'm good to go there.

I checked Corvette America real quick and they have a Hood Hinge Bolt set (10 pieces, part # K1334). Do you guys think that is what we are looking for?

The seat bolts are 5/16"-18 x 3/4" or 7/8", with a 1/2" indented hex head as Mike described.

              Tony,
The seat bolt descriptions given by Mike and John are correct. The Corvette America Hinge bolts will work, however, I believe the TFP seat attachment bolts didn't have the pointed tip on the end like those bolts .
Original style seat bolts will have a flat tip. I will post a photo later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

                Thank you, John.
Anthony, confirm the head marking, you may get an "EL", or, an "ELH" in that kit.

I agree with Joe that the configuration of the bolt end is flat not pointed as the hood bolts, but the original configuration with the flat end and the appropriate head mark may be tough to come by. Good luck. Pete

I always thought the hood bolts (hinge to hood) used a bolt with a flat end and the bolt with pointed end went from hinge to inner fender. Are the seat bolts the same part # as hood hinge bolts?

                        OK, Tony;

Now that we have the front seat track bolts figured out, how about the rear seat? just kidding. It's hard to believe that those four little bolts are all that keeps the seat in the car.

Good point Stu. I suppose that is a secondary reason they call them "SEAT" belts, eh?

No, they're not. The hinge-to-hood bolts are different than the hinge-to-body bolts, and neither is the same as the seat-to-floor bolts; however, the hinge-to-body bolt is only one part number different than the seat-to-floor bolt, which says it's the same configuration, but a slightly different length. The seat-to-floor bolt (#3847757) isn't used anywhere else in the car.

The hinge-to-body bolt (#3847758) has LOTS of other applications on the car, and is pointed.

Hi John, dug out my 64 AIM and it has the 'pointed' 3847758 screw being used in the hood hinge to body location and also the seat hold down bolts. Has a note was changed from 3847757 screw on 3/11/64. My vin 13708 Coupe has all 'pointed' screws in the seat locations. The 63 AIM lists screw asm 3795514 for the seat tracks. Sounds like the screw asm was a moving target on the line!
