    62 4-spd reverse lockout linkage

All of a sudden the T-handle on the shifter feels like there is no spring tension on it when I pull up to put it in reverse. I can see the little spring while laying on my back under the car. Did something break? Help!

If the spring is intact and attached at the bottom, perhaps the lead head retainer in the "T" let go.
I won't say "HaND", because with this dilemma, you probably will not.

Most likely the spring itself broke. It then twists down upon itself and provides no tension. I've found hardware store springs and replaced them--you have to cut the head off the peened pin that holds the outer tunnel in which the spring and cable ride--then slide the tunnel up and off. Fix the spring issue--then put a pin back through and peen it.
