Generator Date Code re: Decipher

I have an original starter for a 60 Vette part number on tag is 1102643. Can someone please confirm the following date code stamped on the tag: 9M4.

James, 9M4 is 9 is 1959, M is December and 4 is the 4th day. Gary....

Thanks Gary, but the letter "M" is the 13th letter in the alphabet. Did Chevy leave out a letter? Thx

I believe that the letter "I" was skipped to eliminate possible confusion with the digit 1.

GM used the letter "I" on CASTINGS (raised cast-in characters), and did NOT use the letter "I" on STAMPED date codes on electrical components. Outside-purchased (non-GM-manufactured) components frequently used their own coding formats.
