Well I dropped the oil pan and replaced the timing chain. Good thing I did. 1/2" play on either side.
Anyhow I digress. While I was at it I was planning on replacing the rear main seal while apart and I have the seal recommended in the latest driveline. However, now that I look at the flywheel there is absolutely no indication the seal was leaking. I thought I read in an earlier post that oil on the flywheel would be an indication of a rear main seal leak. The flywheel is bone dry. I know the valve cover gaskets were leaking and the power steering was leaking all over at a minimum. What a mess.
If there is no oil on the flywheel should I still replace the rear main seal. I like to subscribe to the "if ain't broke don't fix it" theory.
Thanks,
Bill
