Re: Paul Newman
yes - heard he was sick; but very private about it. He use to race a TR-6, similar to the one I have parked next to my 64 Corvette.
Paul and his wife have done wonders with their camp for kids with cancer.- Top

Mike
I dont know the circumstances concerning Paul and Lime Rock. Although the Rolex Vintage Festval is being held this weekend there is a local no racing on Sunday law. This might close the track for the event but open it for a Newman family trial. However I believe that the event organizer, Steve Earle, would let Paul make exhibition runs.

Paul is the real deal. He's been very generous to kids with cancer for many many years. Not too many like him left. Rich- Top

Paul, God bless him. Why don't the celebraties learn to stay out of politics. With him, as with many others, as soon as they take a public stand on the left or the right they loose half their fans, and all the motivation for the good they have done is suspect.

Re: Paul Newman
I had the honor of actually watching "dailies" with Mr. Newman and George Roy Hill one day when they were filming Slapshot in my hometown of Johnstown PA.
He was an extremely nice guy and wished me well (at the time I was hoping for a career behind the camera). While this vocation did not happen for me, I never forgot the way one of the worlds greatest actors would give me the time of day.
I did get to see him at a race in Nazareth some years later. Still the same classy guy.
Actors and politics seem to be totally embedded in the past few decades. One thing about Paul and Joanne is that they put their money where their mouth is. Newman's Own food products generate millions of dollars for their carities, and you don't hear them pounding their chests every day to make themselves feel important. One other guy is Ed Begley Jr. You don't have to agree with all of what he says, but he lives the lifestyle he espouses. MUCH different from I dare say, the majority of the Lear Jet flying faux environmentalists who only want YOU to do without, not them.
OK, soapbox off, I know this is supposed to be a technical discussion.
Good to see Mr. Newman's car win at Belle Isle yesterday.Tony Gray

Re: Paul Newman
in 1977, lea and i were invited to attend the Road Atlanta finals with Don And Helen Blatchley. Don had just retired from nationally competative SCCA racing the year before(at the age of early 70's). Don ran SCCA out of Ptittsburgh Pa with the Steel City SCCA club whose members included Don Yenko, Ed Lother, Grady Davis and Donna Mae Mimms(pink lady). Doc Blatchley usually bought year old Vettes from Davis in the early 60's. anyway, lea, Don ,Helen and i were walking thru the pits at Raod Atlanta that year. anybody who was involved with SCCA racing back then would greet Doc Blatchley in the pits that day. as we proceeded thru the pits, Don looked ahead and spotted a fella sitting on the curb, terribly dirty fire suit and holding a can of Budweiser. Don said to lea and i, come on , i'd like you to meet a friend. within about 10 feet of the stranger, he gets up off the curb and runs towards Donald and Helen. i can attest to his humility and down to earth attitude(and love of beer). About 10 years ago, our youngest daughter Marcy was on a work-related trip to Las Vegas with a bunch of her twenty-something year old female teachers. an old fella at the pool bummed a beer from the young girls and proceeded to spend the afternoon entertaining him. it was Paul. A hell of a driver, a hell of an actor and an extremely unpretensious gentleman. mike.- Top
