    Alternator Pulley for 1100696

Please verify which alternator pulley is correct for the 1100696 Alternator when used with a 67 427/435 application with Power Steering. I would also like to confirm the pulley dimensions (OD and Thickness with V positioning). Should there be a part number on this pulley ?

I currently have Pulley # 3839387 on this Alternator however I don't beleive it is correct for my application as the pulley thickness and V position will not allow correct alignment for V-Belt installation.

Thanks for your help Howard Poulter # 49046

The Assembly Manual shows #3829193 for that application, which has an integral spacer to move the belt groove forward one track to align with the forward track on the power steering pulley.

      John

Thanks for the info. Any idea if the part number you provided is marked on such pulley. My 435 currently has a 69 coded alternator and the although the pulley aligns correctly there is no part number on it that I can find, unless it may be on the back side which is hidden by the fan.

      Appreciate your reply.

The 387 pulley has the part number stamped on it, but I don't recall if the 193 pulley does or not. Paragon has the 193 pulley (their #1648).

John -- re 387 pulley. I bought one of these in the early '90s at Bloomington or Carlisle (can't remember which). Came in a GM box with the white and blue part sticker. It's unstamped and has that gold-ish plating (cad di-chromate ?). I notice in my '65 thru '70 GM parts books, where there's a column indicating stamped or not, its blank for this pulley (only the '58 thru some of the '64 pulleys show a stamped # in that column). I see that Paragon says theirs are numbered "with A1 suffix, as original". Similar new ones pop up on eBay with some regularity. However, I'd like to hear from someone with their ORIGINAL L78, L72, L71, L36 or L68 (sans N40 of course) to confirm stamping (yea or nay).

Now, re the 3829193: The GM parts books show identical dimensions, with pulley 3871242, except the '242' has a shaft dia. 43/64", whereas the '193' has 11/16" (the parts books show 43/64 also for the '387'). My '65 AIM shows the '193' replacing the '242' on L78 with P/S (per NPC 3xx -- can't make out the hand corrections). In the '65 AIM, for high-horse small blocks without P/S or C60, the '242 replaced the '193' in Oct '64 (ie. the opposite switch direction than L78 w/N40). Why the '193' continues to show in my parts books thru 1970 (and maybe beyond) is a mystery that maybe you or Joe L. can answer.

Paragon's #1648, IMO, seems to cover useage shown in the GM parts books for both the '193' and the '242'.

I've got what I think is a '242 ('cause it was on an unrestored 696 alt dated 5G7 -- 2 pics attached). It has a keyway and a flat back.

For Howard: if you have Noland's Vol 2, there's a good shot of a '67 L71 with P/S where you can see the pulley with the thick inboard offset. (pg 419)

Thanks for all your help guys. I think along the pics from Wayne that were received I am able to sort this out. The pulley I have is gold irridate and looks just like the pics from Wayne, smooth back etc. but no part number is on the part.

            Again, many thanks !
