New member First question 1980 vette!!

I am trying to restore my 1980 L48 Manual and would like to ask few questions, please?

    1; Vehicle weights
Where could I get correct weights for my vehicle?

    2; Vehicle capacity

I have seen vehicles with these codes 1YA, 1YB, and 1YF.

My car was built in April 1980 and it was originally equipped with 225 tires and optional alloy wheels.

    Thank you
    Paul

        Welcome Paul.

I don't know much about 1980 Corvettes, but maybe I can give you some clues.

        1) You will likely have to find a similarly equipped Corvette to find the correct weights. For 1972 (the start of their listing the vehicle and gross weights) things that effect the weight numbers -- Body style, size of engine, type of transmission, AC or not AC. I don't believe power steering, radio, or power brakes effected the numbers, but obviously it should. I realize some of these may not be an issue for 1980, but I have listed them anyway.

        2. The vehicle capacities will also have to come the same way. My guess is the 1YA, 1YB, and 1YF are what we call broadcast codes for the different labels. The build sheet for your car has a box on it that calls out the code of the label. The line worker had three, or maybe more stacks of labels, and took one from the stack indicated by that code. If you know what that code should be for your car, and you can find another 1980 with that same code on the label, you will likely find the information you need for your label.

Some build information for late '70s and newer Corvettes built at St. Louis is available from a company Chevrolet has hired to distribute them. I can't recall that information, but it has been posted here in the last couple of months. The search function, cumbersome as it is, is your friend. Now whether you car is among the ones they have data for is one hurdle. Another will be whether the code for that label is listed. On the other hand, the information that is there might be worth you while anyway.

Good luck and enjoy your car.
        Terry
