    C1 "numbers question"

What year did the engine s/n and vehical s/n first match?

I seem to remember reading that it's sometime late in the C1 run but I'm not sure. Prior to this, how do you determine what the "correct" engine is....just the casting date or are there other ways as well?

      Thanks Mike.

So did all the 1960 model year Corvettes have the block s/n match the vin or did this come about sometime during the year?

        Re: C1 "numbers question"

The approximate time of change in production methods (stamping VIN derivate on the engine) is given in the '58-60 JG book. It was after Christmas, 1959. Look it up.

The first VIN stamp was with approx. car #1800 (12-17-59). These were stamped without a gang holder (free hand) and continued through approx. car #5394 (3-24-60) when gang holders were used. These free hand stampings were awful at best.
