67's With Air Conditioning - Horn Question

I need all you 67'ers with AC to double-check your driver's side horn location for me. I know the pass side horn was moved, but my driver's side horn is mounted above the standard "horn hole" using one of the shroud/radiator bolts. I thought it was in the wrong place and tried to move it to the "correct" hole but the condenser prevents me from getting the mounting bolt and bracket aligned correctly and tightened - so back to where I found it. My question is, is the lower hole the correct hole? If so, it would clearly have had to be mounted before the condenser, which may be the case. Just wondering. Thanks.

Hugh, My 67 in at a corvette shop. they dropped the tank and got most of my tank sticker off. I will check Monday and email you as my horns have never been off. I may have a picture of the horn on that side. Rick Jones ( NCRS Member) of albuq. does great work. Dale

Kirk - Checked the D/S horn (#487) location on my Base motor C60 '67 (Sept 66 build) and it's on the lower radiator support, condenser, fan shroud mounting bolt as shown on the '67 AIM UPC C60, SHEET B1 and per the '67 AIM UPC 12, SHEET A5. It is a tight fit but they got it in there. Also, I checked and there is not another unused hole near the location where the D/S horn is mounted on my car.

I trust you have double checked the horn #.

I also double checked the '67 D/S horn with the D/S horn for my Base motor non-A/C 66 ( June 66 build) and everything, bracket, etc. is identical (as it should be).

          Pete -

Does your C60/B1 sheet show the driver's side horn? Mine only shows the passenger side horn, relocated to the front of the inner fender with the riveted-on nut plate just below the parking lamp harness grommet hole.

My 12/A5 sheet shows both horns attached with bolts into weld nuts in the radiator support - each bolt hole has vertical ribs on both sides which orient the horn brackets on my '67.

John - Thanks for double checking the UPC C60, SHEET B1. My err in saying my D/S horn was as shown on C60, SHEET B1 since only the P/S horn is shown. The D/S horn is mounted as shown on UPS 12, SHEET A5. My interpretation is that because neither the C60, SHEET B1 nor any other C60 Section drawing shows or references the D/S horn that there is "no change" of the D/S horn mounting location from "normal" production when C60 Air Conditioning is installed. Pete -

I would interpret it the same way.

Re: 67's With Air Conditioning - Horn Question

That is what I figured. The horn and bracket are original and properly dated to the car 7C2 for an April build date, but for some reason mine DS horn has been moved from that original hole to the much easier to access bolt hole just above. Could be it was possible to wedge the bolt out, but just not possible to wedge back in place once removed and hence the horn was moved to the closest bolt they could access.

John, you are correct in that I surfed the AIM multiple times in the C60 AC section and never found a single pic or reference to the DS horn, which made me assume it was mounted in place before the condenser unit was mounted making placement easy. Thanks as always.

Kirk, I was wrong on my horn having been removed before. Sometime between March 30th 1967 and fall of 1971 when I purchased the car, my evaporator was changed. It has the wider 68 evaporator on it according to Rick Jones. I dont know whether it was warranty or what. Is there any other 67 C-60 cars with 68 evaporators? It sure looked like it had been in there a long time. Dale

                    Pete,
I was searching the board for this same info on D/S horn mounting on A/C cars, 66-67. Appears you are right for sure as one cannott install that horn in its non a/c location as the original condensor bracket slightly overlaps it, I did not see a reference to that in the 66 manual but will look in a 67. I just posted a ? looking for info on the original type of bolt used to mount the 66-67 shrouds, and if there was a different use required on an air car. Sounds like you have originals, can you share that info with me or send a pic? Also do your cars have the add on shroud extension and if so what bolts are used there?
                    Thanks a million in advance!
