    67 Tire size

I asked back in the spring before I bought my wheels, and I got a very helpful response. Well, I put a set of 6" appliance mags on my 67 Conv't. Appliance are a knockoff of amercan mags. The wheels clear well, I put on a set of 2:15-75-15s on and the tires extend out past the wheel well lip. Now I had a 250lb guy push on the rear bumper and it didn't hit. But it's that close that if I put my fingers in there they hit. It sort of scares me. I asked back before I bought the wheels but how about a feel for a maximum tire size to be safe. (I know ever car isn't exactly the same)

Wheel offset is a critical parameter. If your wheels don't match the +.060 offset of the OE '67 Rally wheels there could be problems.

The 215/75R-15 size is a poor choice. They are too large OD and too few revs per mile; 215/70R-15 is the best choice and these can be had in high speed ratings for maximum driving safety and resistance to tread separation.

      Don -

What matters more than the rim width is the wheel's offset (where the wheel mounting surface is relative to the centerline of the rim, usually referred to in the aftermarket by a different measurement called "backspace"). All stock '67 Corvette 6" rims have .06" positive offset, and those rims will handle 205/75-15 tires with zero rubbing issues, and 215/70 tires with less confidence.

Midyears are extremely intolerant of wheels with offset that's any more negative than the OEM configuration, as it moves the tire outboard, closer to expensive fiberglass/paint damage. Do you know what the offset is on the Appliance wheels you have? Additionally, the 215/75 tires have more section width than the 205/75's, which further aggravates the clearance issue.

I have run 215-70/15's with knock offs on my 65 as well as the same size tire on the standard rims. (I believe the off set of the knock offs is similar to the 67 rally wheel) With the knock offs, the clearance is close in the back with about a fingers width distance at the rear fenders, but they never have rubbed. My guess would be that the offset on the mags is not the same as the standard rally wheel and that has taken up some of the clearance. The 215-75 tire is also taller which is probably part of the issue as well.

I'm going to measure the back spacing on my mags vs the stock wheels. I think I am going to try 2:05-70-15 .10 narrower, 5% shorter, the offsey is definetly different tha stock. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket wheels. Americans, etc
