    Terry,

Here is a pic. The 62s have a casting mark on the center of the lid, but I can't remember if it is raised or depressed. Maybe someone else can confirm.

Thanks Bob The deeper I dig the more confused I get. The JG says "cover #" not "part #" as yours shows. I got educated at St. Charles by a very knowledgable Mechanical judge but I've forgotten some of the finer details. Thanks again

        Terry--
I've owed you a reply on this rgarding your previous email to me. We've been doing our homework--I believe there is a very real difference between early and late 62's--but don't know the break point. Early 62's were absolutely flat on the top (like 61's)--later 62's had a ring on the top and I don't remember right now whether it was raised or depressed. The material was different as well. What VIN is your car?
Maybe Tom Howey will jump in here--he's the most knowledgeable on this of anyone I've met.

          Terry,

Mike is right about Tom knowing his caps! He has made quite a study and, hopefully it will be in the Restorer at some point. I e-ed Tom about this and I will let you know when I hear back from him, if he doesn't respond directly.

Thanks Guys I really thought I had a handle on this but I don't think so anymore. My VIN is 109471 April build. The one I have on the car is depressed but in my stash I have one that is raised and one that is almost smooth, maybe just a little bit raised. Mike was Tom the other Mechanical Judge?

My VIN is 3814 - December 61 car. Can I assume it is considered an early car?

Hi guys for my two cents the fuel filter in the photo is not correct, the the AC should be on the body on the top not on the raised hump, should have AC engraved on fuel bowl glass also and the fuel line between pump and carb is steel not brass also, hope this helps. Phil 8063

                  Phil--
You're right that it's not a correct piece. However, the AC should be on the raised hump (as per the 62 judging manual), and the AC in the glass is not engraved, but is part of the casting. Also, it should not say "part no.", it should say "cover no.".
Many guys are looking at the bottom of the cover and finding a "62" on there, and assuming that the part is a 1962 production piece, and that is the date it was manufactured. That is NOT necessarily the case!

Hi Mike you might be right but I thought the AC was on the round hump in the center on the earlier cars ( 58 59 etc) and on the body next to the hump that goes across the top which the fuel lines go in. The one in the photo looks like the GM replacement one. Thanks Phil 8063

                      Re: '62 Fuel Filter

I'm going with my filter that has AC on outlet side, AC on glass bowl, cover no 854392 on top, 2e(maybe May of '62) on underside, and the notches on thumbwheel not very aggresive. My camera won't give enough detail. Any thoughts? Thanks
