68 bellhousing color

I am a little confused, I have a 68 L68 (manual) in the judging manual it states that 2-4 inches of overspray on the bellhousing. ????? Is the clutch fork painted or lightly sprayed??? The clutch boot has no over spray???

This just came up in another post, Joe (clutch boot vs. fork). The bellhousing was installed at the time the engine was painted at either Flint or Tonawanda. The clutch fork was installed. Therefore both received some degree of Chevy orange depending on how 'aggressive' the painter was on that particular engine.

When the engine assy arrived at St. Louis, several other items were installed on the power train feeder line including the actual transmission and the clutch fork boot. Basically, if you see a PN called out in the AIM, that tells you it was installed at St. Louis vs. being on the engine from Flint/Tonawanda...

FWIW when I pulled the engine from my '68 in '03, the bell housing was pretty much all orange. As for the clutch fork all I can say is it has no paint on it now and I did not purposely strip it of any - just cleaned it before reinstalling it.
