    Judge Levels

Being new to the judging system, I have a question regarding Judging levels.
In the Judging Reference Manual it explains the points that a person accumulates as an Observer Judge, Team Judge and etc.
My question is, when and how does a person know when you move out of the Observer Judge Level and onto the next level??- Points count?? what!
It has been verbally explained to me that you need 400+ points to become a Master Judge, but what about on your way to this level??

    Thanks

    Re: Judge Levels

    Dave,

You don't really "graduate" from one level to the next.
If you have low points and show up at a Regional or National, you Observer Judge because more qualified judges have likely filled the spots.
If you show up at a Chapter Meet, every warm body ends up judging, so you're the real thing!

      Re: Judge Levels

For every 10-points you accumulate, you gain a level. When you reach level 10 (100 points total), you garner Master Judging status.

The National Judging Chairman reviews point totals annual (typically in the Feb-April timeframe) and sends out status updates. You'll only receive an update notice when you pass a milestone (e.g. pass from Level 2 to Level 3).

The observer judge status is NOT related to a member's overall judging level. It's where/how he/she is assigned to work at each meet.

A judging team consists of eleven judges; a Team Leader and two team judges working each of the five judging sections (Operations, Interior, Exterior, Mechanical and Chassis). Observer judges are assigned on an as required basis to assist in these areas. Typically, they'll hold the clipboard, record the team judges scores & comments, perform reference manual fact look-ups, Etc.

Getting a work assignment for a novice judge is typically easier at a Chapter level meet than at Regional or National meets due to the number of qualified judges who turn out. But, that's a pattern and NOT a hard rule...

To 'play', you simply attend the judges meeting, raise your hand an volunteer to help as either a team judge or in the observer judge capacity. As you gain knowledge and peer recognition, you'll find those asked to serve in the role of Team Leader begin to seek you out and request your services...

Any idea how many master, 200, 300, 400 and 500+ judges we have?

Points counting stops at the 400 level.
Every year or two Roy Sinor puts a list of how many judges have reached each level. Thumb back thru your Restorers and you'll find the most recent tally.

                Re: Judge Levels

I'm not the only one but I'm often asked to judge the 53-57 but mostly a 55 at most meet even in Utah when the 55's were honored . Been asked from the start of NCRS (like team captain in the OLD days ) when ever I go to a meet which is not often . I never asked to be counted for points. I've always liked NCRS and the members, but stay a way from politics. That's just me ! But I have great respect for people that have a judges hat.
