    73 shock and spring labels

What is considered proper placement for "JX" and "JY" shock labels on a 73 LS4? How far from the bottom, facing front of car, rear of car, etc?
Also, is it true spring labels are not generally judged? I can't find "MG" repros anywhere.

Re: 73 shock and spring labels

Since the ID tags for shocks (and springs) were applied by hand, there is no 'correct' placement position. Just put them where visibility to chassis judges makes their presense obvious.

I'm not sure where you get the info that spring labels aren't judged... There's a pretty clear passage of descriptive text in the JG book and, to my knowledge, nobody makes reproduction labels! But, I wouldn't expect the absense of these tags to cost much in terms of overall point loss.

      Hi William,
For your reference here's one of the original rear shock labels on my 71. It's the right rear. Even then it was turned so the 'judge' could see it.
      Regards,
      Alan

Quoting from p. 96 of 73-74 JG, "It is not always possible to see spring tags because they are sometimes too far into the frame tower." I took this to mean you wouldn't get a deduction if the judges couldn't see them. Given this, I assume I'm better off leaving them off altogether, rather than putting some on with the wrong code. Am I right?
