My original exterior rocker panels have a tab on the front lower section for the placement of a screw. Would you expect GM# 03977624 & 03977624 to have those tabs? Thanks.

Re: 1970 Rocker Panels GM part numbers
Not unless they were made in the very early 1970's --
most NOS sets that are on ebay are ones without tabs. I have only seen two early NOS sets sell there in the last 4-5 years, and they went for around $700+.
I had mine chemicaly stripped, fixed of dings, and then re-anondized.
They look GM original. Spent around $500 to get the set done.

Tom,
His name and PH#
J & M Stainless / Chrome
Office: 386-445-7032
Cell: 386-569-9631
His name is John
He is located in Bunnell FL. I had him do all my stainless/bumpers/trim rings, exhuast tips etc....
I believe he ships them to a shop for chemical stripping and then does his work, and finally sends them out for anondizing.
They judged without issue at Kissimmee 08'.
Give him my name that way he knows how you got his info --

Re: 1970 Rocker Panels GM part numbers
Tom and Bob, it has been a very long time since I have taken my original rocker panels off my 70. I seem to remember that the front tab used a nut, washer, and bolt. I replaced my 70's originals with new ones from GM in the late 80's and they did not have the front tabs like my originals.- Top

Re: 1970 Rocker Panels GM part numbers
It has been a long time since I looked, but I believe my 1970 (early) has a hex head sheet metal screw that goes into a J-nut. I was hoping you guys would have settled this out so I didn't have to go look.Terry- Top

Re: 1970 Rocker Panels GM part numbers
Hi Bob,
There was a thread on the Board about the rocker panel, tab, and screw, with-in the last month I believe.
I remember looking through the 71 AIM and found the same screw is used to mount the INNER ,4-speed shifter rubber boot to the underbody. I found it used one other place too, but I can't recall where right now.
I thought, if I needed 2, I'd take 2 from the boot and put something almost correct there, since I don't think the boot screws are being judged...yet.
Regards,
Alan
PS: The J-nut is the same part # as the one used for the side grills.71 Coupe, 350/270, 4 speed

Re: 1970 Rocker Panels GM part numbers
Hi Bob,
I remember taking the boot screws out and putting them back, but don't have a picture.
I'm sadly learning that 700 pictures isn't enough. Maybe next time... ah! that's right, there isn't going to be a next time.
I'm sure someone has their car apart enough to snap a picture.

Re: 1970 Rocker Panels GM part numbers
I have found the screw to be a 5/16 hex recessed washer head metal screw that went into a J-nut that is over a fiberglass tab on the bottom of the fender. The tab was used till sometime in the 74 MY.Lyle
