    57 gas gauge wiring

I just replaced the gas/temp gauge in our 57. After getting it all hooked up, the gauge stayed on all the time, even with the key off. Checking the wiring this is what I found. The hot wire, pink, goes from the gauge into the loom. Two pink wires come out of the loom and are together in one connection that attaches to the ignition switch. The second pink wire comes out of the loom and to the fuse box. This all matches the wiring diagram. Problem is, the pink wire is attached to the top right fuse which is hot all the time. If I disconnect that wire, then the gauge works properly. There are only 2 wires on the fuse box, this one and a red one that is hot all the time. (no heater) I cannot find a diagram of the fuse box to determine which fuses go where. The assembly manual shows a couple of individual lines, but nothing shows it all. So, where should this pink wire go and what happens if I leave it off?

    Thanks

    Re: 57 gas gauge wiring

Ken, from what I can tell is there are two pink wires on the driver's side gas gauge terminal; 1 from the ignition switch and the 2nd one goes to the driver's side temperature gauge. The pink wire should only be hot when the ignition switch is on. Junction (fuse) box leads are: brown = heater, tan = emergency flasher, red = horn relay, black = radio and pink = ignition. Gary....

      Hi Ken,
I am going to try and post three pictures from my 57 bowtie car that may help answer your question.

David, a picture is worth a thousand words!!! That is exactly what I need!! Ours looks like the first two, but the fuse panel is where I was lost. The pink wire on our fuse panel was in the wrong place. It all makes sense now.

Man, if the outside of your car is anywhere near as clean as your underdash, your car must be a real jewel!

        thanks a lot

Ken, Dave's car is the best '57 Bowtie car I've had the pleasure of seeing. It's really neat. Dave got his Bowtie award at Boston and displayed the '57 again this year at St. Charles. Great car! Gary....

Dave, any chance you'll bring that beauty to San Jose next year? Gotta get that 5th star if you haven't already. We'll be there for our 5th star on my wife's 88 35th Anniv.

Gary, is your car Arctic Blue? Any chance you could post a picture of it. That's the color my wife wants the 57 to be.

              thanks again for the pictures.

                Hi Ken,
Not much chance of getting the car to San Jose as much as I would like to. I did get the 5th star in St Charles this year.
I would like to bring it to the National in 2010 in Concord NC. Lowes Motor Spd.
