Indeed...Corvette was only five years old at the last big shindig; now, like many of us, it is fifty-something.

Has it been fifty years since tri-power 348 Impalas in "Anniversary Gold" metallic paint and chrome-laden, over-the-top Buick and Oldsmobile barge designs to celebrate the big anniversary?...The General was definitely on top.

Time for you to step into the phone booth, Clark Kent, and change back into the Super Corporation for the 21st century. You can do it...I'm betting on it.

I have never seen a gold 58 tri power 50th anniversary Chevrolet Impala. Did own two 58 Impalas back in 64-66. Wonder how many Chevrolet sold?

I've seen plenty of Anniversary Gold 58s, probably even some Impalas, but I don't know if they were tripowers or not.

More likely they were not...not that many tripowers built. But...it very likely happened; Anniversary Gold was a standard color. It was an unimpressive color in my opinion...it lacked the metallic depth and pop of the other GM metallic lacquers. On the 58s, at least, it weathered poorly, looking like "Baby Poop Drab" after a few years.

The only 58 tripower Impala I was familiar with was black...with heavy swirl marks. The older brother of a high school friend rolled it by running off the approach to the Brazos River bridge while intoxicated. His uncle in Midland felt so bad for him, he gave him his 57 Ford Skyliner retractable hardtop convertible to replace his lost Impala. Bah!

i owned a new 58 tri power 348 impala BUT it was silver blue. i installed a mechanical carb likage and a solid lifter cam and for a TRUCK engine it blew off a lot hot cars back then traded it for a 59 impala with a 335 HP 4 speed which i traded for a new 59 corvette and the rest is history. the 59 impala looked like this but mine had a heater. http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache...lnk&cd=4&gl=us

Good grief...Who knew those old cars would be worth $110K some day! But then again...who even thought about $110K in those days; that was 15-20 years salary for the well-employed.

Another older acquaintance had a new 59 like that...except I think it had red in the side molding with a red interior.

I don't remember the powertrain...I was impressed enough that he had the car. I thought the rear speaker in the center of the rear seat was really cool...installing aftermarket rear speakers in old cars was all the rage in those days. That car, and others, convinced me I had to have a Chevy Impala Sport Coupe when I got the dough.
