    Rocker panel hardware for '63

I am working on the rocker panels for my 63 SWC. In removing one side I noticed a sticky substance that was evidently applied to the screws upon installation. The AIM has lots of usage of sealant or adhesive compounds, but I cannot find a direct reference as applied to the lower rocker molding screws. Was a sealer indeed used?

Also, in checking the archives, it appears that there is discussion on what type of screws hold the rocker panels. The ones on mine are hex head (14 of them) black with washers. These are for the under side. Ones I ordered from LICS are hex head but plated.

The end screws from LICS are black phillips head and they match what I have.

Any comments on the hardware? Thanks.

Ted, my 63 the LWC has had the rocker panel Sems screws at the platers at least 3 times. The screws have been everything but chrome. Do you have the 5th edition Ted? If so look on page 65.
Seven cadmium plated screws-Sems with a circle around the sems. Very hard to find good originals that are not all rusty. Most every 63 I have seen has had the Sems with the circle around the logo. Later midyear rocker panel Sems do not have the circle. The end screws should be black phosphate.
P.S. Is your 63 restored or unrestored?

The car is a Top Flight (Chapter) and all the details are being addressed. Thanks for the reply.

Do you have information that says the bottom screws were also sealed in place when installed?

I can't imagine any sealer being used on those bottom rocker molding screws in the factory application. There were lots of screws for attaching bright wheel opening moldings on steel cars that had "beeswax" on the threads from the supplier, but I've never seen any on a midyear Corvette.
