I just got done blow torching/scraping some Bondo off the bottom of my '59 frame where it looked built up and kinda wrong. Steel plate is welded to the bottom on the passenger side under the frame from the end of the center X-member to just beyond where it starts bending up over the rear axle. It's not even with the steel though; It's welded right over the existing frame steel. I guess there must have been some rust-through there.
I checked on http://www.vetteproducts.net and they don't seem to have that section for sale. The repair is really obvious, so I know it will kill me in judging. I contacted the previous-previous owner and he said it was like that when he bought it in the 80's and he drove it like that for years, so I'm assuming it is structurally sound.
What are my options to repair it? I'm feeling a little discouraged ....
How many points does a car typically lose for amateurish looking repairs? Any ideas GREATLY appreciated.
