    Unknown block casting number

I was judging at an NCRS event yesterday and found an unusual engine block in a 62. The last 3 numbers in the casting number were 547. I didnt write the whole number down because I thought I could find out what it was when I got home. I've looked through all my stuff and cant find a casting number that ends with 547.

The car was built on the first day of production for 62, so an early car.

Can anyone find this casting number and anyone seen a block other than an 870 in a 62 that was original?

    Thanks,

    Boyan

I can find no record of any small block casting number that ends with "547". In fact, I can't find any that, considering casting number discernment difficulties, might be interpreted as "547". So, I don't know what you saw. It is possible that there was some sort of SERVICE-only, low production block casting with these last 3 digits. If so, though, I'm completely unaware of it.

Was there a casting date that you could read?

Guys, I've really been thinking about this. I am pretty sure the last 3 numbers were 547. But it may have been 457, which I still coulndt find. I also tried other variations to see if I could have mis-interpreted it, but had no luck.

It was a flint block. The main casting number was the regular size of flint 870 blocks, but the numbers were not spaced evenly, kinda bunched together with alot of casting slag. Date was very hard to read due to oil and the breather tube, but as best I could make out it was L 6 0. December 6th...1960 or 1970. My guess is 70.

I will try to call the owner and see if I can get him to write it down. I am kicking myself for not documenting it as I should have once it came up.

        Thanks,

        Boyan

Any chance the last three numbers could be 657?
