Interesting! Wonder if severe/prolonged point bounce may have had something to do with that?

I don't think so, Michael. I've had the engine up near redline on more than a few occasions, with nary a misfire.
By the way........ found the broken off piece nearby, on the breaker plate............lucky!

Even with part of the contact area broken off, they probably would have keep going for some time.

This is another reason to do an annual inspection of the distributor internals, check dwell and timing. A good time to do this is during the annual oil change.
