I often wondered why Wapakoneta, Ohio was the site of the first NCRS meet. I lived just a few miles away and was there, but didn't become a member until later. None of the NCRS fathers were from Wapakoneta or really even close. Was it because it was more or less half way between some of the starting leaders from southern Ohio and southern Michigan? I was there as a 21yr. old with my '62 and stopped just to see what was going on. Dennis Clark's article just got me to thinking.

Re: Why Wapakoneta?
Tom that was May 29-June2, 1974. Remember back then, at least for most of us, the only Corvette club going was the NCCC. AT that time, we had a club is Celina, called Grand Lake Corvette Club. Kern Chevrolet was our sponsor. There were about 6 of us in the club, that had at that time C1's were called Classics and a pretty good group of newer Corvettes. Of course being a Classic owner, I was pretty excited about it, but didn't know if it was going to be another club that was going to fly or die. It seemed at that time, there were getting to be a club one almost every interchange up I-75. Tom, where were you in the years '72 about '80? I remember being at Wapakonta and talking to people like Joe Pike and Becky Bodner. They were kind of the spoke people from Chevrolet, that came to the meet. You can read about it in the latest "Restorer" on page 38-39.
I see your edit now. You can also tell I am not a fast typer!- Top

Re: Why Wapakoneta?
David !
I remember the Grand Lake club. I used to ride my bike down to Jamesway and watch the autocross in the parking lot. I had no way of knowing when the races were, but I lived close by and could always hear the cars racing, so I'd hop on the two wheeler and go watch................. Man, that was fun ! Probably was a factor in my Corvette addiction that led to me being a lifetime Corvette nut. I've been the Corvette specialist at BUDS Chevrolet now for 16 years !!If you ever get to St. Marys, stop in and say Hi !
