looking for adhesive recommendation

Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations to repair the leading edge of my convertible top. The picture shows the vinyl covered forward trim piece separated from the top. This is not the weather seal, but the piece between the seal and the actual top material. I was originally held in place wit some sort of staple or tack. This is the original top (1970). It is conceivably exposed to the weather, so I was thinking of trying some clear silicone caulk, or contact cement. Please suggest the best option.

There is a contact cement known as GOOP that has more body than the typical variety which might work best for your application. From the looks of it you need something with body to help fill the gaps on the rough, weathered surfaces.

GOOP is available at places like WalMart. It comes in a tube and is clear. Follow the directions and have a few pencils or wooden spacers to hold the surfaces apart for the cement to set up before you bring the surfaces together. You should also clamp it if possible with some tape, small clamps or clothes pins (oops! am I dating myself?!)

Thanks, Mike. I looked it up and sounds like just the right stuff. I thought I would clamp it down by closing the top. Should hold it nice and tight.
