I am hoping someone can comment on the best formula and manufacturer for Sateen Silver. Here is a chart I found:
Sateen Silver Metallic
Valspar MW6001
PPG 31928
DuPont 4023
RM 1203
SW 1912
MS 3072
WA 2659
Here are my questions:
1. Is urethane BC/CC the way to go for 1960 Sateen Silver ? Everything is going water based in California but I could go to Nevada to get paint if needed. Is that an issue ?
2. Which manufacturer should I use to best replicate the original lacquer finish with a modern paint ? I need the metallic flakes to match in size and color (i.e. avoid the pearl flakes) ?
3. Which spray gun type should be used ?
4. What flattener mix ratio should we use for the jambs ?
5. What is the best way to get a professional body and paint guy up to speed for an NCRS paint job ? My friend has 25 years experience doing this full-time for a high end body shops (Lexus, Mercedes, etc.) and will do this as a side job. He is studying the TDB postings, the JM and the NCRS Paint DVD. Any good books on paint and fiberglass he should read ? I was planning to have him speak with Paul Schuster and others that could help. He will start the paint job in 6 months but wants to start planning now and doing some test panels. He will also be at the Western Regionals in Lake Tahoe to study the cars. I have known him 40 years and I have a lot of trust in him which is why I want to use him.
Thanks,
Mark
