    Not Corvette Related But.....

I witnessed the "unearthing" of several classics ( and a couple of not so classics) this week. Stored in the basement of a local service station was a 1924 Lincoln V-8 (last tagged in 1932), a 1931 Huppmobile roadser straight 8, a 1949 Hudson Hornet, a 1950 Ford pickup, and a 1971 Grand Torino. All the vehicles, with the exception of the Grand Torino, were bought to transport Wilkes County's finest liquid version of corn and rye, plus apple and peach squeezin's. All were one owner vehicles.

They are still out there folks, just keep a diggin'

What Heraldo Rivera would have given to find those cars in Capone's hidden vault!

Tried to, but deal went down very quickly. I have some pictures that I will post later. Neat find. Cars were complete and very restorable. The wood spoke wheels on the Lincoln and Hupp were very solid and restorable.

              Dick:

The number of "finds" still out there never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think there aren't any left, more pop up. The Caddy in my avatar was one, and I have a lead on another. Unfortunately, my yard is filling up with them and I'm pushing my wife's patience. Thanks for sharing.

Since you're up in "Junior" land, have you tried his Midnight Moon? He finally has one sold legally. I had him sign my bottle and gave him a hard time about the "proof" (86). He's a real character.

The Lincoln was parked in 1932. Amazingly the engines were free in all the vehicles. He had the plugs removed ever year or so and added a little Marvel Mystery Oil, and turned the engine over.

                  Marvel Mystery Oil!!!
                  That will do it!
I taught High School Auto Shop back in the 80's and the Old Timer that was there when I started just SWORE by that stuff!!
He would use it on everything!
I have to admit it was very useful in a lot of situations. He did have a couple old cars that he would balance a nickel on the air cleaner to show the students how smooth they would run! Said it was due to his fine tuning and M.M.O..

Bunkster, those cars were so far ahead of anything the revenuer's had it was not even funny. The Lincoln was a V-8 and the Feds were driving Model T's?? By the time they had progressed to Model A Fords the late owner of these cars had the straight 8 in the Hupp

Were there any tankers? I attended the Thunder Road affair in Knoxville last summer. Robert Mitchum's brother showed up. He played the younger brother. They had a tanker and some other cars all over Gay Street downtown. A lot of fun.

No tankers Bunk. I do not think that would have worked too well with wood spoke wheels. The only tanker I ever say was a 3,500 "gasoline" tanker. That was in the mid '60's. The boys I know have said the tankers were more of a myth rather than a reality. There were a few, but they were undriveable, would not get out their own way, and not enough brakes to stop in a 40 acre field. Cars with good drum brakes were not safe with 30 cases, let alone a hundred or more gallons.

The only time the brother of our famous NASCAR figure ever got caught was in VA when he ran out of brakes while being chased by the law.
