1967 mufflers?

Getting a car ready for ncrs, both my mufflers have a clamp on the front side, conecting them to the tailpipe, should I take the hit or spend 450 on new ones?

You are not going to get any system that's likely to be considered 100% correct in judging, even if you get one of the new reproductions. Pretty much, all you can do is to minimize your deductions. If your present system is in good shape, and especially if you have original exhaust pipes, I'd recommend staying with that.

Do you care about the money or the points more? Ah shoot, go for the correct exhaust because after it's on the car you will forget about the cost. But if you leave it wrong you will never forget it.

Hi Keith
Another less expensive alternative, if completed properly could restore your potential lost points.
Find an original one piece set (good pics in a prior thread about a month or so ago)
Fire up you welder, or take to your nearest muffler shop,
tack weld the pipes to the mufflers to retain an acceptable fit,
drop or remove if need be,
remove the clamps,
trim if necessary,
replicate the original production bead around the connection,
re-install.
