How many amps should a starter draw when spinning out of the engine? Also, is 6200 the correct RPM without load?

The specified range is VERY large because the exact value depends on ambient temperature, Etc. But, from the 1971 Chassis Service Manual for 12 VOLT starters, the spec is:

(1) 50-80 Amps for 5500-10500 RPM free speed starters

and

(2) 65-95 Amps for 7500-10500 RPM free speed starters

If we're talking about a 6V system, all bets are off.

I expect we're talking about a 12 volt starter since I think the car involved is a 1955 and there were not too many 6 volt systems used for 1955 Corvettes. However, if it were a 6 volt system the free speed test would be 75 amps at 6900 RPM.
