    62 windshield washer vacuum can

Can someone post a picture of the vacuum canister mounted? Also, what hose attaches to what?

You probably want to be more specific as the vac reservoir mounted differently for FI vs. non-FI cars...

Can someone post a picture of the mounting position of the vacuum can for the windshield washer for a 1962 non-fuelie?

The illustration on page 325 in Noland's book shows it mounted on the back side of the driver's side splash shield; that same sheet is in the Assembly Manual.

John, I see it in the manual, but I am trying to determine if the can sits higher than the resevoir or are is the valve on top of the can about level with the top of the water resevoir?

I think you are looking at the FI location, the non-FI is on the drivers side attached to the metal splash shield under the washer jar. The holes are prepunched in the pan even if used on an FI car or a non-washer equipped car.

I know it's on the driver side, but should the can be lower than the resevoir. I don't see any punched holes.

If you have the Fifth edition judging guide, there is a nice illustration on page 71, section 20 of the Chassis group. The vacuum tank is below the reservoir, on the metal splashpan. Also shown on section B, sheet 11 of the AIM. The metal splashpan is at the level of the drivers feet, well below the reservoir. The holes are present even in FI cars although they are not used in the washer system as installed in FI cars. The splashpan is a bolt-in part, is it in place?

William, My eyes were deceiving me. I found the two holes. What kind of bolts should be used to attach the can? I can't find any listed at Paragon or Corvette Central.

On a '62, the "bolts" are actually studs welded onto the supports of the tank. Different than '58-61 which had actual bolts. I believe a nut and star washer are used on the bottom, but check the AIM to be sure.

The vac can I bought on ebay doesn't have the studs. Any thoughts on what thread size or bolt that I can have a stud tacked on to the can?

Gosh, going from memory, since I installed mine. But I beleive the studs are either 10-32 or 10-24. You could make studs out of a hex head bolt and turn the round and the top of it flat. The top of the stud "flange", has a circular pattern to it. Then tack weld it on the feet, with the head toward the tank and the threaded part through the mounting holes.

Even easier, use a carriage bolt and there is no work needed on the head.

                            Good luck

John, well yes you can, but the head would still not be correct. The stud has a head on it that has a (guess here) .030-.050 squared edge. The very head of the stud is flat, with concentric circles across the head. The carriage head bolt would also have that square on it, that is just under the head and probably will not fit in the hole provided for it, in the foot of the mounting bracket.
