    windshield wiper motor

On my 63 SWC,while trying to install my wiper arm on driver side (waiting for clip on pass side), I ran into a problem.
Before I installed the wiper arm, the wiper motor would shut off and responded to turning the switch on the dash, ran fast, slow and shut off.
When I installed the arm, I had it out of position, jamming it as it rotated.
I shut off the ign. switch, removed the arm. When I turned the ign. switch on again, the wiper motor started to turn again but will not shut-off when turning the dash switch to off. The switch will still let me control the speed, but will not let me turn the wipers off. I disconnected the wiring plugs at the dash switch, still not shutting off.
Is my problem in the switch or in the motor ?
If it is in the motor and I have to remove it, what do I have to remove, in order to get the motor assy off ?
Also, If I have a problem in the motor assy, who would be best to restore it ?

    Re: windshield wiper motor

I believe that the problem is in the motor. They will behave like this often. The mechanism inside that allows the motor to park gets dry and sticky. Disconnecting the wires at the switch will not affect the operation. The plugs on the motor supply voltage and ground. The access to remove the motor is in the inside of the car. You will find access easier by removing the glove box assembly. There are 4 bolts that secure the motor, and do not be surprised if only 3 are installed, as I have seen this many times.

      Brian,

Thanks Brian. That's what I was afraid of. Well, looks like I will have to remove the assy after all. I cleaned-up the outside of the unit when I had it out during the body-off, bench checked it and it worked OK. Was weighing to have it restored.
Now I might as well. Nice winter project...
      I will be in touch.
