I need help finding a correct windshield for an early 88 restoration. The judging manual says 12 monts prior is acceptable. So what I need is something very early 88 or late 87. I cannot find anyone who is repoping these. Any ideas as to finding NOS or an excellant used?Thanks in advance. Tom Stanton #41491

Re: Winshield help! 88 C-4 ?
Went thru this with my '89 a few years ago after a Hailstorm at Bowling Green. There are no reproductions currently available (at least 2 years ago) PPG has been bought out by "Pilkington" in England I believe, and all the replacements carry the Pilkington Logo. At Corvettes @ Carlisle, there are occasionally vendors who have a supply of C-4 Windshields avaliable, and I choose on of them based on proper tint and ability to see thru it, not the date. Took my hit on the date, car and I both survived to Crossed Flags 5 star.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Winshield help! 88 C-4 ?
Pilkington has a very active Vintage Division, and manufactures lots of vintage glass with the L-O-F logo on it - they are THE supplier of dated reproduction L-O-F glass for the '67-'69 Camaro guys.- Top

Re: Winshield help! 88 C-4 ?
There is a C4 used parts place over on US route 1 near Mims, North of Titusville. Does anyone know the name or phone number. I haven't been over there in awhile so I don't even know if it is there now? Thanks Tom- Top

Re: Winshield help! 88 C-4 ?
I tried Plinkington, no luck. They cannot do it. I found out the C4 scrap yard on US 1 is called coastal Corvettes. He had an 87 I could have used but broke it getting it out of the frame. I am still looking, any help will be greatly appreciated! Tom- Top

Re: Winshield help! 88 C-4 ?
Tom,
I'm in the same boat with my '96. What are the shortcomings you have encountered with Pilkington Classics? They claim that they can sandblast any LOF emblem the customer requires but I have not contacted them yet. On the one good piece of glass (passenger door) in my car, the LOF emblem et.al. has a white etched appearance so I am thinking a sandblasted logo will work. Others have indicated that some C4 years have a black logo sandwiched between the layers of glass.

I finally gave up and bought the Pilkington glass with thier logo. It fits great and looks great. It just doesn't match #'s wise. I am still going to watch for a matching one and if I find one will have it if I decide to put it in.Good luck, as Joe Lucia said quite some time ago these C4'S are going to be a real problem to get patrs for someday! Someday is here! Tom- Top

Re: Winshield help! 88 C-4 ?
Tom;
How does the tint of the new windshield look? Does it match the former glass?
I know it would be nice to have the correct glass, but will this affect the cars value all that much? It is a beautiful machine the way it is and optioned, etc. Would it take all that much of a hit in judging? Enough that it would "put off" a prospective buyer?
Don't know C-4's all that well, but sure looks like a sweet ride to me.
