81 transmission / clutch spline ?

I need to replace the original clutch on my 81 vette BW trans but according to parts books my vette trans could have came with 2 different splines, 10.5" 10 spline or 10.5" 26 spline. Of course its a 50 % gamble and I would like to lessen the odds so I have the correct disc pre purchased. I was hoping some members had changed the clutch out and remember if the clutch was a fine or a course spline or have both splines appeared ?

I've never been into a 1981 clutch. However, I think the parts book you're referring to is incorrect. From 1971 to 1981, all Corvette 4 speeds used a 26 spline input EXCEPT 1978 with L-48 and, possibly, some early 1979 with L-48. These exceptions were equipped with a "Muncie" 4 speed based on the old Saginaw design, including 10 spline input. However, I'm virtually certain that all 1975-81 Borg Warner T-10's used a 26 spline input shaft.

It should also have a 14"-diameter 168-tooth flywheel and an 11" clutch (not a 10.5"), unless it's been "messed with".

Yes, I missed responding to that part of the question. The 10-1/2" clutches with 10 splines were also used for 1978 with L-48 and, possibly, some early 1979's with L-48. They were not used thereafter or for any 1975-81 Corvettes with Borg Warner transmission. For some reason, this "78-79 with L-48" situation has crept into some parts catalogs as being applicable to other years.
