Don -- the thumbnail shows my 3829387 pulley and the same fan that shows on the left in the auto-load pic. Would describe pulley as having zinc chromate (goldish) surface. Pulley was purchased at a stateside swap meet in the early '90s, in GM box. The '65 TIM&JG says "original pulleys have a cast appearance .. current reproductions have a patterned, machine appearance". I would describe this one as being in the latter category, even though it was GM (service). There is no part # stamped on this one.

The fan on the right in the auto-load is off a 696 unrestored alternator 5_G_7, and I believe is original. It is painted semi-gloss (like the '65 JG allows) and there are paint runs visible when held under reflective light. The left fan I would describe as black oxide plated.

Now, notice that both these have 11 blades, single radial "creases" and a notch on the leading edge of each blade. The one on the right has (what looks to be) a drilled hole (9/64" dia.) at the crotch between the blades; the other doesn't have this. Don't know the provenance of the left pulley, but I suspect '65 or earlier.

The '65 JG lumps all fans and pulleys descriptives into a short paragraph, in spite of there being at LEAST 4 separate pulleys covering all options. [eg. the JG does not acknowledge the INTEGRAL fan/pulley 3859768, which the '65 AIM lists for L75 and base motors with C60].

P.S. Don, if you're ever down Calgary way, drop by.

The alt fan was dipped in semi gloss/flat black.

The correct original plating on the pulley would be zincad. (silver) Starting some time in the late 70's or early 80's, new GM service pulley would have come in with a gold, or zinc dichromate finish.

There seems to be some debate on the part number stamped on the face side. Pretty sure the pulley from 65 and at least part of 66 had no such part number stamped on it.
