Speedometer Cable

I have my instrument cluster out and thought I would clean / lubricate the speedometer cable. Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

To do a fair job of cleaning the cable, you'll need to pull it out of the cable sheath. This can only be done from the speedometer end, so you're doing it at the right time. Once the cable is out, you can inspect it for damage or wear, clean it with common solvents (Berryman's B-12 works great), re-lubricate it with speedometer cable lubricant, and re-insert it in the sheath. Done.

This procedure will, of course, not result in the sheath being cleaned out but to do that is a lot more work and probably unnecessary.

If you decide you don't want to clean the cable, you can purchase an adapter which allows you to force grease into the interface between the cable and the sheath using a grease gun.
