On the underside of a '61 hood, I am confused about where the exterior body color stops and starts. The NCRS judging book says the exterior color goes on the panel lip about 1" wide, but does it go all the way to the radius of the reinforcement panel (which would be more than 1"). Also does the exterior color go on the forward and rear lip of the hood, and if so where does it stop?

Re: '61 Hood paint margin
I just looked at my original 61 hood and see the, radius/ 1/8" up the side is body color.
Looks as if a mask was used and the mask thickness protected the body color that little bit up the edge. If tape had been used the the entire vertical surface + 1/2 the radius, would be black. Then imagine putting masking tape on a freshly painted car and ripping it off quickly.
Front edge is almost devoid of body color paint, mostly bare glass and black overspray.
Interesting question, would never have given it a second thought. Cool detail.- Top
